Emily Provincial Park (16 x 24) oil, by Carol Berry, copyright 2006
This painting of the view from the beach at Emily Provincial Park on Pidgeon Lake near Omemee, Ontario. Mixing the blues was very elusive, I finally realized that I had mixed all my tubes of blue paints together to get the blues I wanted.

Coming from England to Canada more than 50 years ago, it was fun to return to  the U.K. to paint this sceneof the usually short-lived english winter in the so-called West Country.

Artist’s Statement:
“My fascination with colour, design and emotion are the main motivators in every single drawing and painting that I create. The subjects, medium and colours combine with fantasy and imagination to express impressions and feelings that are experienced at the time of fruition. The act of creating is often enough to stimulate the work  to a fascinating end. Turmoil and pleasure are equally important influences in my works.  They have been described as vibrant and exciting, a feast for the eyes – I love this description.

The wild and rocky Cape Breton shore is a romantic spot, frequented by seabirds and tourists mainly. Â It is ideal to inspire artists, too, and, as you paint (or maybe take photos) you will sea eagles soaring overhead.

Lower Pitt Lake is a charming part of the Fraser River system where I have spent many a happy hour drinking in the peace and observing the great blue herons. The mountains of the Coastal Range are off in the distance.

The watercolour is of an unforgettable walk down a Cabbagetown street with my wife Sandy and our golden retriever Jessie, one morning in early November. It had snowed overnight when some foliage still remained on the chestnut trees. The quality of the light was soft and magical, and I have tried to capture it by avoiding contrasting tones.

This watercolour called Childhood Summer reminds me of a street near where I grew up in Oakville. It was a carefree time. We raced outside after breakfast and returned when the street lights went on.
