Upper Canada College

Title: Upper Canada College at Night
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 20″x24″
Artist: Patricia Vicari
Year: 2010
About the painting: I painted this as part of my ongoing project of painting Toronto scenes. I pass this site almost every day and find it vaguely disturbing, as the College itself is vaguely disturbing to  me.
About the artist: I have studied painting for many years, at the Toronto School of Art, the Haliburton School of the Arts and with various teachers. I am a member of the Toronto Watercolour Society, the Don Valley Art Club, the Forest Hill Art Club, the Artists’ Workshop, and have participated in many group shows. I  have also exhibited in several solo shows.

Title: Solar Storm
Medium: Acrylic
Artist: Patricia Vicari
About the painting: The sunspots created by explosions on the sun’s surface during a solar storm look oddly like huge sunflowers. I found the granulation of the surface, seen through a telescope quite fascinating and tried to capture the effect here.

Title: Temple of Apollo and Church of St Paul, Syracuse, Sicily
Artist: Pat Vicari

About the painting: I found this an eloquent juxtaposition of the very ancient, and pagan religious monument and an eighteenth-century Christian church.

Cape-Breton-Shore-I

The wild and rocky Cape Breton shore is a romantic spot, frequented by seabirds and tourists mainly.  It is ideal to inspire artists, too, and, as you paint (or maybe take photos) you will sea eagles soaring overhead.

Lower Pitt Lake is a charming part of the Fraser River system where I have spent many a happy hour drinking in the peace and observing the great blue herons. The mountains of the Coastal Range are off in the distance.
